  • 1976 Greco EB-500, C760577

1976 Greco EB-500, A proper survivor < Back 1976 Greco EB-500 C760577 A very rare opportunity to obtain a Greco EB-500 bass in a great condition. This is a March1976 build and both pick-ups are fully operational and sound great. The neck is as good and straight as we have seen on an EB, and is wearing new strings. These are Maxon built PU-114 and PU-115 pick-ups, and both are humbuckers and are in fine health - the mudbucker making the Hall shake. The bridge unit has a fair bit of punch too - together they sound fantastic. Whilst looking pristine from the front, it does have a beauty spot on the top edge of the neck where a small patch of finish has met with an object that removed it. A lovely old bass, in great original condition - fully serviced and ready for service. I am not, never have been, and will never be a competent bass player - the demo video is limited to proving it works and what it sounds like. • 1979 Greco SE-700 Early Sixties Black on Black, I790431

1979 Greco SE-700 Early Sixties Black on Black, Black on Black with Rosewood - perfection... < Back 1979 Greco SE-700 Early Sixties Black on Black I790431 This 1979 Greco SE-700 has a 2-piece body and retains its original PU-119 pick-ups with unusual but original black covers. This is another vintage Greco that blows the minds of Fender traditionalists - the neck will feel very familiar to a sixties Oval C, the weight and balance will give the impression of a very expensive original. The colour scheme is reminiscent of the Fender Black-outs and large headstock Highway One editions - it does look sensational. These PU119 pick-ups are held in high regard amongst the MIJ crowd - they respond well to subtle control changes on the guitar and the amplifier and exhibit a good clarity and slight nasal characteristic when driven. Everything on this guitar remains original - the bridge and tuners are all in great aged condition - most importantly perfectly functioning. The black scratchplate was an option at the time, and gives this guitar a really purposeful look. At a fraction over 3.59kg (7lbs 14oz) this has "that perfect Strat" weight and feel to it - there are a few parking knocks and scars on the body that give it that authentic vintage touch too - we have attempted to catch them all in the photos. None of them down to the wood. The frets have lots of life left in them, this is fast slick and comfortable like all SE-700s - arguably the sweet-spot of the range. The serial Number on this one is I790431, an early November 1979 Fujigen build from the time they were really showing off to impress the boys from Corona. A Fender guitar from this CBS era is hit and miss - there were some real howlers, and even the good ones are likely to have been upgraded by now. During this era, Fujigen and their contemporaries were just the opposite - getting better and better. This guitar feels like one of their very best. This SE-700 will put guitars twice, even three times its price to shame. Despite being in fantastic condition, we can talk about upgrade ideas, we can recommend Tall Narrow frets on these lovely necks; we can give it a Gotoh 510T tremolo; we could convert the electrics to Sao Paulo spec (rail humbuckers), but these are all fun indulgent options - this guitar is genuinely good to go as it is. • 1977 Greco EB-500, I776987

1977 Greco EB-500, Short scale classic bass < Back 1977 Greco EB-500 I776987 A very rare opportunity to obtain a short scale Greco EB-500 bass in a great condition. This is a November 1977 build and both pick-ups are fully operational and sound great. The neck is as good and straight as we have seen on an EB, even with the flatwounds it has been strung with for most of its life (not the same set!) These are Maxon built PU-114 and PU-115 pick-ups, and both are humbuckers and are in fine health - the mudbucker making the Hall shake. The bridge unit has a fair bit of punch too - together they sound fantastic. Whilst looking pristine from the front, it does have a beauty spot on the top edge where a big chunk of finish has met with an object that removed it. The owner at the time covered the scar with varnish and there is no risk of it getting worse, nor is there any risk of scratching yourself on any edge. A lovely old bass, in great original condition - fully serviced and ready for service. When it arrived, the pots were a little scratchy, and have cleaned up very well with some Deoxit. If between the time of writing, and a sale, the pots give me cause for concern again, I will, with the next owner's consent, replace them with identical new ones which won't affect the price, but will cast doubt on my "all original" statement. • 1980 Aria Pro II TS-500, 004263

1980 Aria Pro II TS-500, Matsumoku began to go its own way < Back 1980 Aria Pro II TS-500 004263 The TS-500 is the mid-range model with all of the toys, but the regular grain woods. An extra 10,000 Yen would have got a choice of the premium woods, but still you needed 80,000 Yen to get the thru'neck version. Of course we all want one of these, but they are very rare and expensive now - the 500 with the set-neck gets all the functionality, and a pair of excellent Extra III (aka Protomatic III) humbuckers. These were evolutions of MMK53, and we know them the best from Westone Thunder II models. And Noel's Epiphone Riviera. Many children of the 1970s will probably have drooled over these in a guitar shop, up there on a hook next to a Westone Prestige, and sadly way way out of our price range. Even though they were actually pretty affordable compared to the big US brands, most of us needed to slum it with a Westone Concord, or in my case, a Satellite G65 from Woolies. 40 years later, and that opportunity re-appears! The specification on these is vast. The two humbuckers can be split into single coils with dedicated mini-switches; a third mini-switch will reverse the phase of the bridge pick-up when both are selected. A final mini-switch will activate an active booster circuit which has its own volume control. You'll make good use of this control as the boost is enormous. We have a master volume and a tone control; and the final control is a type of Varitone function with a variety of high and low passes to get some interesting tones. There is an enormous array of tones once the switches, the varitone and the booster is configured - so much to play with, and lots of genuinely useful tones. It's a guitar to be creative with. The neck is a double octave affair with a nice thick rosewood board on a maple neck. The body has a strip of maple flanked by wings of ash. The matching headstock gives this a real 80s look. This is an earlier 6 in a line model - the TS range became 3 by 3 as the earlier headstock migrated to the more expensive RS range. While the general direction for most of the big guitar plants in Nagano was to emulate as closely as possible the Fenders and Gibsons, Matsumoku never lost the spirit of adventure and looked in more exciting directions such as Alembic for inspiration. This example has just arrived from Japan, and has just been serviced, and now we can offer it for sale in excellent condition. Price FLASH SALE! Click Buy button to reveal latest price. Fernandes TE85-T, Sexy modern Tele < Back Fernandes TE85-T Signature Models have no serial numbers This beautiful recent arrival with us has blown us away. This model is another one of our Signature Model Fernandes – the TE85-T is a Judy & Mary, specifically, Takuya model – the one without the grafitti. The previous owner tells us this is a 1996 model – there are a couple of parking knocks on the lacquer, but nothing else to give away being 26 years old. It has the familiar active FGI-T pickup system, a single volume and selector switch. No tone control. Like the STJ models we have, this feels like a professional instrument as soon as you pick it up. • 1973 Greco SE-430 No.2, Pre Serial Number

1973 Greco SE-430 No.2, Soulful vintage Matsumoku at its finest. < Back 1973 Greco SE-430 No.2 Pre Serial Number Another glorious 1973 built Greco with the 5-piece construction neck - so special that some folk have asked us to build guitars around them. During this period in Matsumoku's history it wasn't faithful accuracy to Fender dimensions that counted, it was creating a strong stable comfortable neck. We have never seen a 1973 neck that needed any adjustment after 50 years - this one included. This guitar arrived here from Japan after a long cherished life in the hands of its original owner and aside from regular servicing and a fresh set of strings, it needed for nothing. The frets are low but level - a refret is not far away; but when guitars are as comfortable to play as this one, lets get the most from them. This would make a very good starter instrument - they were of course the entry level back in 1973, but these are a different class altogether from new starter guitars. It is tempting to spend as little as possible on the first guitar, but this really doesn't do any favours to the student as they always need the same value as the guitar itself to prepare for actually playing. This SE-430 is so slick, so gentle and has a decent acoustic ring even when not plugged in. The Maxons pick-ups are low output heaven - their distinctive brightness pairs with a small valve amp perfectly. These were the original iteration of the pick-ups in the USA-bound Goya guitars - a fair few very famous guitarists found their sounds and styles on these. Take a listen to how this one sounds in the video below: Its in great condition, needs nothing for another few years, but will need a new set of frets to get to its 100th birthday. Of course there are signs of life on the finish, but its all genuine - its taken 50 years to get it looking like this! Price ON SALE! Click Buy button to reveal latest price. • Rose Morris Shaftesbury 4001, No Number

Rose Morris Shaftesbury 4001, ex-Darkness studio hack < Back Rose Morris Shaftesbury 4001 No Number From the well known Rose Morris dealer in Shaftesbury Avenue, this old warrior was resident in a studio in Lowestoft and has more than likely had Frankie Poullain's talent pouring out of the stereo jack - no provenance, but the current owner engineered the early Darkness years - this was a parting gift. Gone is the Rickenbacker truss rod cover, as this has never been to Santa Ana - but it is a very well built bass from the Japan years when Rose Morris provided Rickenbackers to those without the budget for one. This is Stereo, which works perfectly, and the neck is like most Japanese constructions - in better nick than most Rickies from the period. Looks like one, feels like one, plays like one, sounds pretty close to one, and without the price tag of one. A regretful but necessary sale, this is ready to rock (the Rickie rod cover is in the case); and like most Shaftesbury 4001s, the pick-up cover has long gone. These are essentially the same construction as the highly regarded El Maya and Greco RB series from the early and mid 1970s - made on the same production lines but specifically for Rose Morris to sell alongside the real ones. Nice and solid, the electrics are all original and just serviced. Unlike real ones, the pick-up selector switch doesn't crackle; and there is a strong chance that you'll be playing the bass on the two volume controls as you kick out some stereo glory. We include a stereo cable with it. The original case is in poor shape, but still functional - this has been a busy bass guitar and should continue to be so. If you are local, come and sample it, if not we can demo it over a Whatsapp/Facetime call. We can ship it to you fully insured. There is one crack in the scratchplate - from the neck pick-up to the top, but it holds together, and Jack at TinyTone will make a replacement for it without the usual Rickie-taxed price-tag. • Aria Pro II ST-600D, D800066

Aria Pro II ST-600D, DiMarzio equipped mid-range heaven < Back Aria Pro II ST-600D D800066 By 1980, these traditional Strats had stopped featuring in the catalogues as the Project Series' had really started to take off. They reappeared in the 1981 "LS and Others" brochures. We have found a few traditional models on 80 plates and this Strikin' Sound 600D is a great example. The D denotes DiMarzio pick-ups - this 600 featuring a set of fully functional FS-1 (Fat Strat). With an Inductance of 6.7 Henries and 13.4KOhms, these pick-ups have characteristics very different to the SP-II of the more junior ST ranges. Not to be confused with the ST-600 from the late seventies with their single volume single tone configuration and SP-1B pick-ups, this single owner guitar (prior to us) guitar has had a gentle life - just a little wear to the fret board and a few knocks to the body. This guitar is in the queue for a very special and completely reversible upgrade project, but is such a great player that it will reside in the studio to be enjoyed for the time being. • Rickenbacker 1997 Rose Morris 1967, GA194

Rickenbacker 1997 Rose Morris 1967, < Back Rickenbacker 1997 Rose Morris 1967 GA194 Another fantastic vintage guitar that we can trace back to the day it left Shaftesbury Avenue for the first time. Not all f-hole Rickenbackers are Rose Morris guitars, but this one is. This is the 1997 model - twin pick-up no vibrato version of the 335S. GA194 has had a busy life, but used less and less in the last 20 years. A recent recommissioning returned a Trapeze to the bridge where a Gibson tailpiece had replaced the original in the 1970s. 2 new OEM knobs and a saddle cover replaced broken and missing originals, but the remaining parts and components are original and in fine health. This is neither an unused case-queen, nor an over-restored museum piece - it is an honest old Rickenbacker that still gets occasional serious use, and never fails to deliver the look, the sound and the delight of playing the right guitar for the right song. Have a listen to the video - that's GA194 through a clean Marshall with some reverb from the GT-Pro. The previous owner assures us that despite not being silver, the case is the case it left the shop for the first time in. • Matsumoku Frontman II

Gritty Growly Yellow Super Strat < Back Matsumoku Frontman II Price £1,999 | SOLD Add to Cart Chat with Us Missed out on this model? Talk to us for a rebuild! I'll assume you have read the Frontman I page and so shan't go into the background save to say I deprived a band leader of a neck pick-up and so I made amends and threw in a middle for good measure. A sunburst 1979 Aria Pro II Stagecaster was about the correct weight for this anticipated build - light to medium weight, and snappy. Off came the hardware and out came the electronics - hey, off came the paint. Naked as the day it was sawn into a plank, several coats of our favourite yellow applied topped off with a black headstock. A new Gotoh GE101TS tremolo in contrasting black finish is topped by rebuilt Gotoh SG381, also in black. Having been impressed with a similar build with 2 hot P-90s, we decided to add a middle to that pair, and angle the bridge unit slightly for more gnarly aggression. A pair of Full Monty P-90s installed at the neck and bridge, we tried a few for the middle and settled on a Gotoh SC-STD unit - slightly less powerful than its neighbours, and therefore getting more of the quackiness for the parallel positions. A Master Volume and Master Tone always suffices on these guitars, so the lower tone control is a blender that fades the neck pick-up in with the bridge when the bridge pick-up is selected. Given the brief that this guitar will be the default for the neck pick-up requirements, the blender only functions on the bridge pick-up, enabling a varying degree of bass introduction to the bitey gritty bridge tone. It adds an element of airiness - some space between the top and bottom. Like a giant Tele Deluxe in the middle position. However the bridge tone is tailored, banging the pick-up selector to the neck gets you the undiluted unalloyed neck P-90. To use this guitar as a normal traditional Strat, there is a requirement to back the volume to 8.5 on the knob as wound all the way up, every tone in every position screams to get out. It isn't "angry", like Keiths Ibi#2, just energetic and keen. A very good quality PIO capacitor tames the aggression via the tone pot. This thing begs for an AC30 with a slightly past its best speaker. The P-90s will squeal at you at monster gain levels, but I think that's the whole point. You may move closer to the stack to make it more so. Our Frontman has more energy on stage than a man of his age has any right to have. Now he has a pair of guitars to match that. Details The Look Another one of our Signature Yellow guitars - big sounds need a big look. Already slightly stage-worn so no need to mollycoddle it. Headstock Black on black with black Neck Slim, but not too slim C - Stagecasters were always well known for lovely comfortable necks - this is no exception Pick-ups Neck and Bridge are Full Monty P-90s (7.8K and 8.6k), middle is a Gotoh SC-STD (8k). • Shergold 124, 12420

Shergold 124, Pretend you are Mike Rutherford < Back Shergold 124 12420 This extremely rare UK built double neck is in fine condition and stage ready for a Genesis (or Julian Cope at a stretch) tribute act. The serial number is 124 20, which we assume means the 20th guitar built in this particular 12 up top, 4 below configuration. We think it dates from 1978, and the hardware and electronics are totally original and in fine working order. The only items that have been replaced during the recent re-commissioning are the guitar strings, and the scratchplate and string guide screws. One "witch hat" knob on the neck selector has been replaced by a 1970's Fuji black tip - it fits well and doesn't look out of place. The pick-ups are the original Re'An units - Re'An is synonymous with Burns of London. Jack Golder is the 'Gold' in Shergold - he and Jim Burns more or less established Burns of London. The Burns tone was popular amongst the professionals and therefore it made sense to stick with Re'An for these subsequent ventures. They are indeed great pick-ups and up top you have the choice of a single coil, regular series humbucker, or the two coils of the humbucker out of phase. The neck and bridge units have their own 3 way sliders to select how you need each pick-up and a further 3 way selector gives you neck, both or bridge. Most great sounding 12 string electrics use single coils - here you get the choice, and an additional effect of combining the pick-ups with one out of phase which provides a very interesting and useful set of tones. The bridges retain their original saddles and also the black covers which often go missing on these. Under the control plate, the electronics are of great quality and function perfectly. It is beautifully put together - the design and workmanship continuing into the areas you are unlikely to ever see. The bass guitar features one 8 pole humbucker (6.725kΩ DCR), and both necks utilise a master volume and tone control. 124 20 features a stereo output facility - the upper output socket can feed 2 amps (or signal paths), one for the bass, the other for the 12 string. A standard mono cable in the lower output socket will deliver either bass only, guitar only or having both necks live at the same time, but they will be going through the same signal path / amp and the DCR is reduced as the bass pick-up and guitar pick-up(s) are in parallel - have a look at the DCR curves to check this effect. With a stereo cable in the stereo jack, the outputs of the bass and guitar pick-ups are not affected and both necks can be in play at full output power. If you are familiar with Rick-o-Sound, then this is similar - whereas Rickenbacker delivers separate outputs for each pick-up, this delivers separate outputs from each neck. There is a stereo cable included in the sale of this guitar so get a second amp ready, or get 2 tracks on the DAW and have loads of fun. There is a flight-case with this guitar and as you can imagine, it is extremely heavy - please factor this in when considering shipping this.
